Historical Significance
The Peterson Dumesnil House was built in 1869 in what we know today as Louisville’s Crescent Hill neighborhood. It was originally built on 31 acres of land as the summer home of the tobacco trader, Joseph Peterson. Joseph was a Philadelphia native who moved to Louisville in 1836 at the age of 24.
The home has a long lineage of family ownership. For over 80 years, a member of the family lived in the home. In 1976, the property was designated as a landmark and was placed on the National Historic Register. Still to this day, the property serves as a community landmark and resource used by many residents and events of all styles.
Victorian Design
The home is unique in that it is a blend of the Victorian and Italianate architecture styles. The home is asymmetrically designed with an incredible wrap around porch that can host the most amazing gatherings. A distinctive cupola adorns the top of the home. It is possibly one of the last remaining of its kind in the city.
Tradition attributes the design to Henry Whitestone, a prominent local architect responsible for several significant buildings downtown. The house is known for its 14-foot ceilings, intricate woodwork, and expansive gardens, the house is truly one of a kind. As a Louisville event florist and designer, this venue can accommodate any plan. Whether you gravitate toward sleek and modern event design or one with bold emotion, the home will provide the most amazing setting.
Ultimate Versatility
The Peterson Dumesnil House is truly a one size fits all venue. Larger events have the option to tent the garden areas and lean into the beautiful surroundings. On the other hand, smaller events have the flexibility of being indoors or on the expansive porch. The historic character and charm add an immense amount of style and elegance to any event.
As a Louisville wedding florist, I specifically appreciate the grand design of the façade of the home. This area provides an incredible backdrop for the most breathtaking ceremonies. The porch and aisleway can easily be outfitted with the most amazing floral décor that enhances the surrounding beauty.
Inside, the home boasts the most charming details that will elevate any event design. From the intricate mantles to the large windows, your guests are sure to remember the elements and feeling of your special day. It Is easy to imagine your event here. An intimate ceremony under the generations-old shade trees. A cocktail hour on the porch filled with that southern breeze and low hum of conversation. A reception that can accommodate and fit any desire you have. These are all possible at the Peterson Dumesnil House.
